چکیده

We used acoustic telemetry to examine the small-scale movement patterns of yellow®n tuna (Thunnus albacares) in the California Bight at the northern extent of their range. Oceanographic pro®les of temperature, oxygen, currents and ̄uorometry were used to determine the relationship between movements and environmental features. Three yellow®n tuna (8 to 16 kg) were tracked for 2 to 3 d. All three ®sh spent the majority of their time above the thermocline (18 to 45 m in depth) in water temperatures >17.5 °C. In the California Bight, yellow®n tuna have a limited vertical distribution due to the restriction imposed by temperature. The three ®sh made periodic short dives below the thermocline (60 to 80 m), encountering cooler temperatures (>11 °C). When swimming in northern latitudes, the depth of the mixed layer largely de®nes the spatial distribution of yellow®n tuna within the water column. Yellow®n prefer to spend most of their time just above the top of the thermocline. Oxygen pro®les indicated that the tunas encountered oceanic water masses that ranged most often from 6.8 to 8.6 mg O2 l , indicating no limitation due to oxygen concentrations. The yellow®n tuna traveled at speeds ranging from 0.46 to 0.90 m s (0.9 to 1.8 knots h) and frequently exhibited an oscillatory diving pattern previously suggested to be a possible strategy for conserving energy during swimming.

Habitat and behaviour of yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares in the Gulf of Mexico determined using pop-up satellite archival tags.

This study presents the first data on movement, habitat use and behaviour for yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares in the Atlantic Basin. Six individuals were tracked in the Gulf of Mexico using pop-up satellite archival tags. Records up to 80 days in length were obtained, providing information on depth and temperature preferences as well as horizontal movements. Thunnus albacares in the Gulf of Me...

Research Article: Length-based fishery status of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares Bonnaterre, 1788) in the northern waters of the Oman Sea

In the present study, population characteristics of Thunnus albacares were evaluated by sampling at five fish landing sites in the northern Oman Sea including Beris, Ramin, Pozm, Konarak and Jask from March 2017 to March 2018. The biometric analysis was performed on more than twenty-six thousand fish. Population dynamic parameters were calculated including infinite length (L∞=171 cm), growth co...

Length frequency, length-weight relationship and catch per unit of effort (CPUE) of Longtail tuna (Thunnus tonggol) and Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) caught by purse seine in Oman Sea

Length frequency, length-weight relationship and catch per unit of effort (CPUE) for longtail tuna and yellowfin tuna in purse seine fishing were studied in Oman Sea between July and August 2015. Length range and mean of longtail tuna were obtained 56-98 and 74.13±0.41 cm, respectively. Length range and mean of yellowfin tuna were obtained 51-128 and 74.62±0.46 cm, respectively. The length-weig...

Oxidative stability, biochemical indices and characteristics of the fatty acid composition of fish protein isolated from tuna (Thunnus albacares) canning by-product stored at -24◦C for 6 months

Tuna processing by-product is estimated at more than 100,000 metric tonnes annually in Iran, which could be a potential source of edible protein in human food. Hence, recovering proteins from tuna by-products is a big achievement in the seafood industry. In this work tuna protein isolates (TPI) were extracted from dark/ red meat using the isoelectric solubilization/ precipitation method. Oxidat...
